The Bill proposed by Maria Eagle MP as an Early Day Motion (see previous News item) failed to gain Government support and was lost on 1st December 2017.
It is sad in that old tyres will still be permitted on PSVs (i.e. buses and coaches), as they will on HGVs, and so further lives are likely to be lost needlessly.
Reports of two Coroners having written to the DfT about the problems of old tyres delaminating, bursting, and causing fatal accidents are correct – I was the Tyre Expert who examined the tyres in both instances and I provided the evidence to those Coroners at their inquests (Gloucester and Woking).
