In June 2017 David attended the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators’ Crash Day at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. Numerous staged crashes were organised with speeds of between 5mph and 93mph! Most vehicles were cars but some tests involved a lorry and one a moped. It’s obviously very useful to have damage produced at known speeds and to have photographs of it for reference purposes.
On two previous Crash Days, he and Chris Goddard fitted banks of speedometers in the bullet cars, to assist the research that resulted in their joint papers on that subject (see Presentations, Research & Training).
