Qualifications
- Bachelor of Technology (Honours) degree in Materials Science and Technology (awarded 1970)
- Registered Forensic Practitioner (under CRFP, awarded 2005)
- Full Member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators (awarded 1993).

Experience
- Leading forensic practitioner, specialising in the field of Vehicle Component Failure Investigation since 1971.
- Provided several thousand reports for police forces and parties involved in civil litigation.
- Worked with and advised police, lawyers, insurers and other bodies on component failures.
- Often examined vehicles off-site, attended scenes of accidents.
- Given evidence at hundreds of courts - Coroners’, Crown, Magistrates’, High and County Courts. Has been cross-examined on numerous occasions.
- 2001 to 2006 Principal Consultant at TRL (formerly, Transport Research Laboratory), specialising in the examination of road accident component failures.
- 1971 to 2001 employed by UK Government’s Forensic Science Service, initially at their Aldermaston Laboratory (Berkshire) and then at their Metropolitan Laboratory (London).
- Instructed on university and police training courses. Has also presented lectures to learned and professional bodies; including the Institute of Materials, International Association of Forensic Sciences, and the Institute of Road Transport Engineers.
- Invited speaker at international conferences.
- Published work on light bulb failures and carried out research into the evidential value of motorcycle speedometers.
- Heavily involved in a variety of vehicle component failures that have resulted in Recalls (via the Department for Transport’s Vehicle Inspectorate, now VOSA) involving thousands of motor vehicles, both in the UK and overseas (see ‘Cases of Interest’).
- Founder member of the Institute of Traffic Investigators - on the governing Council for 6 years, and for 5 of those years was Hon. Treasurer. Has reviewed books for their journal ‘Impact’ and contributed articles both to this and the newsletter ‘contact’.
